Renet Korthals Altes
Renet Korthals Altes is a child centered designer, consultant and trainer.
Safe places to play form important community gathering places for children and their caretakers.
Renets dual education - Architecture (Technical University Delft) and Pedagogical Academy for primary schools - forms the base for truly childfriendly design. She has fifteen years of experience as a playground designer, in a wide variety of (inter)national contexts.
In The Netherlands her work varies: upgrading & greening schoolyards, inclusive play spaces at special needs schools or in public space, community spaces to play & meet in parks or urban environments.
Her international projects are very diverse, but have the same goal: enabling children to advocate for their right to play, and to take action for it. Ranging from neighborhood or school participatory projects, community workshops creating spaces to play, from co-construction sessions for students, to presentations, lectures and trainings for architects. Renet has worked in Egypt for over 3 years.
Renet was one of the winning initiatives in the innovation award for Urban Refugee Children from UNHCR, because of her approach with strong participation, co-design and co-construction.
Renet enables a community to create their own play&meeting spaces: together they MAKE SPACE FOR PLAY.
